MOL Group – Modernized kerosene storage facility in Kecskemét

The MOL Group has inaugurated its HUF 1.2 billion (EUR 3 million) modernized plant in Kecskemét. Around 85% of Hungary’s strategic kerosene reserves are stored here.

The modernization of the plant in Kecskemét has increased Hungary’s strategic kerosene reserve from 2,000 to 14,000 tonnes. This has increased storage capacity sevenfold, making an important contribution to the country’s security of supply.

After commercial operations were temporarily discontinued, the facility was used as part of a partnership with NATO until 2015. Thanks to the modernization, around 12,000 tons of aviation fuel and JET can now be stored in Kecskemét. The facility has been expanded to include a tanker filling system, a laboratory and a sample storage facility, and pumps and pipelines have also been modernized. The kerosene is delivered via a pipeline from Százhalombatta via Cegléd and can be stored for up to five years without any loss of quality.
