Alstom Hungary – Billion euro investment in Mátranovák

Alstom, the French mechanical engineering company is investing HUF 6 billion (EUR 15.2 million) in a modern plant in Mátranovák.

The development will increase production capacity at the Group’s plant in northern Hungary by 40%. The project will make the plant in Mátranovák one of the largest European sites for the production of bogie frames for rail vehicles. 20% of the development amount is granted by the state. An additional 150 new jobs will be created here and state-of-the-art welding technologies will be used.

Alstom Hungary Kft. already employs 720 people here and has its own welding school to ensure the next generation of welders.

The Mátranovák plant began almost 40 years ago with the manufacture of bogies for metros and trains. Today, the company’s products can be found in conventional, high-speed and suburban trains, locomotives and double-decker coaches throughout Europe. According to the company, the bogie frames for MÁV, MÁV-HÉV and BKV vehicles are also manufactured here.

Alstom has been present in Hungary for more than 20 years, has built half of Budapest’s metro trains and was also involved in the modernization of the MÁV-Start train fleet.
