Gyermelyi Zrt. – the market leader pasta producer in Hungary – has inaugurated an egg production plant. The HUF 1.4 billion (EUR 3.7 million) investment in Máriahalom is not far from the company’s headquarters in Gyermely.
Gyermelyi Zrt. is increasing the number of its laying hens from 540,000 to 680,000. The aim is to increase the annual egg production from 140 million to 170 million, of which up to 700,000 eggs per day are used for pasta production.
Gyermelyi has one of the most modern and largest pasta factories in Central and Eastern Europe, with an annual capacity of 70,000 tonnes. Last year, 42,000 tonnes of pasta were produced, 35% of which was sold abroad. Gyermelyi Zrt. invested HUF 22 billion (EUR 58.6 million) in the last five years, roughly a one year volume of sales.
