Shortly before Christmas, the sale of Wiener Lokalbahnen Cargo (WLC) was successfully completed. The Austrian rail freight operator has come under Hungarian ownership, with the CER Cargo Group becoming its new owner.

Following the completion of the transaction, WLC was renamed CER Cargo Traction. The acquisition represents a significant milestone for the interoperability and international expansion of the CER Cargo Group, as WLC has strong expertise in both intermodal and conventional freight transport.

In May 2025, the company and its former owner, Wiener Stadtwerke, launched an open tender to find a strategic partner. The contract was awarded to the Budapest-based CER Cargo Group, which operates internationally.

CER Cargo Group has subsidiaries across several Southern, Eastern and Central European countries. With the acquisition of WLC, the group is strengthening its presence and operations in Austria and Germany, complementing its existing regional activities.
