Airbus Helicopters officially inaugurated the new Airbus factory in Gyula. The factory currently employs 50 people but the aim is to reach 250 employees within a few years. The construction of the factory in Gyula started in December 2020. The factory was built with an investment of HUF 2.2 billion (EUR 5.5 million), half of which was spent on the purchase of machinery and equipment. The Hungarian state is a 30% shareholder in Airbus Helicopters Hungary Kft., which was founded two years ago.
The 13,000 square meters plant will produce precision steel and titanium components for the kite structure and helicopter dynamic systems. Gyula will be the sole production site for these components for the entire Airbus family. A 3,100 square meters surface treatment plant is also being built.
Airbus is the Hungarian Army’s partner for the delivery of H145M and H225M military helicopters. In addition, Hungary’s armed forces use two Airbus A319s as transport aircraft.
Airbus Helicopters is the first concern to support the implementation of Hungarian defense industry concepts. Four years ago, the government decided to allocate HUF 220 billion (EUR 550 million) for such development purposes. In July 2022, another HUF 250 billion (EUR 625 million) were released to be used to set up new joint ventures and build new factories.
