Mercedes-Benz continues to align its global production network to the manufacture of electric vehicles. The company is preparing to become purely electric by the end of the decade.
As part of the global production network, the Mercedes-Benz plant in Kecskemét has an important role. From the middle of the decade, models based on the MMA platform will roll off the production line here. The models are compatible with both purely electric and traditional drivetrains and redefines the company’s compact entry luxury segment. In addition, a model of the all-electric MB.EA platform from the Core Luxury segment complements the plant’s production portfolio.
As announced, Mercedes-Benz is investing more than EUR 1 billion in the new future orientation. This will involve the expansion of the existing plant with new buildings for body production lines and assembly lines. As part of the company’s “Electric Only” strategy, a building for the final assembly of high-voltage battery systems for future Mercedes EQ models is being constructed on the plant site in Kecskemét. The battery modules delivered by external suppliers, consisting of connected battery cells in a housing, will also be assembled here to coincide with the vehicle start-up, fitted with the necessary control electronics and prepared for the installation in the electric models produced in Kecskemét.
