In 2022, investments increased by only 1% year-on-year. In the 4th quarter of 2022 the volume of investments decreased by 6.3% compared to the same period of the previous year, and lessened by 5.5% compared to the previous quarter. Neither the government nor private households or companies were investment-friendly. In fact, volume of construction investments lessened by almost 6.5% in the last three months. Among budgetary units, investment activity lagged by 28%, due to the smaller volume of projects financed by EU funds.
Nevertheless, the manufacturing sector increased by 13% in the last three months of last year, thanks to ongoing battery factory construction projects and a revived automotive industry. But the tire and plastics industries, as well as the manufacture of electrical equipment, building materials and pharmaceuticals, were also flanked by more investment than a year earlier. In contrast, real estate fell by 3%, agriculture by 8%, trade by 13%, public administration by 17% and logistics by 20%.
At the same time, the last three months still contributed HUF 5,430 billion (EUR 14.5 billion) to the HUF 15,410 billion (EUR 41.2 billion) of the full year.
