Around 15,000 new apartments are expected to be completed this year, according to the construction industry ÉVOSZ association.
At the same time, around 180,000 apartments are to be renovated. Both segments will therefore fall short of expectations. According to the construction industry, 35,000 apartments completions a year would be optimal. There is also capacity for the renovation of more than 200,000 apartments. The ÉVOSZ is therefore pushing for the spread of subsidy programs with low-interest loan structures.
The order backlog in the construction industry is currently almost a quarter below the previous year’s baseline figures. The association expects building material prices to stagnate in the first half of the year and rise slightly in the second half.
