Energy storage – Subsidy program

The long-awaited call for tenders for energy storage under the Jedlik Energy Program has been launched. Companies can now apply for support from the total budget of HUF 50 billion (EUR 132.6 million) for the installation of industrial energy storage systems.

Half of the total funding is earmarked for micro and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The government will support the construction of storage facilities with a capacity of at least 800 MW, thereby increasing the existing capacity fivefold.

In addition to the mandatory installation of energy storage systems, the subsidy can also be used for the construction or expansion of renewable energy and/or heat generation facilities (solar power plants, wind turbines, or heat pumps). The non-repayable grant covers 50% of eligible costs for micro and small enterprises, 40% for medium-sized companies, and 30% for large enterprises, with up to 30% of the awarded amount available as an advance payment.

Applicants may request a minimum of 10 million and a maximum of HUF 1 billion (EUR 2.6 million euros) for a development project at a single site. The call for proposals could generate around 2,500 new investments by the end of 2028.
