E.ON Hungária – New substation in Várpalota

The E.ON Hungária Group has inaugurated a new substation in Várpalota (Veszprém County).

According to the E.ON Hungária Group, the substation spans nearly 20,000 square meters and includes two 132/22 kV transformers with a rated capacity of 25 megavolt-amperes and a 22 kV indoor switchgear.

The HUF 4 billion (EUR 9.9 million) development is part of the cross-border EU project Danube InGrid, which involves investments of approximately HUF 116 billion (EUR 287.8 million) in cooperation with Slovak partners. In addition to the projects in Várpalota, initiatives worth HUF 60 billion (EUR 148.8 million) are being carried out in Northern Transdanubia, such as the Kisbér substation commissioned in 2023, and the Zalaszentgrót substation opened last year, followed by similar projects in Szombathely, Zirc, and Veszprémvarsány.

The substation will also support the development of the defense industry. The defense industry complex on the outskirts of Várpalota will be used for the production of medium-caliber ammunition, followed by factories for large-caliber ammunition, mortars and grenades, fuses, and explosives—developed in several phases across 400 hectares.
