As a financial and strategic investor, the Hungarian state is setting the direction for the development of Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport. Together with the airport operator VINCI Airports, extensive investments – including a Terminal 3 – are planned at the airport. Terminal 3 is scheduled to be handed over in 2032.
The planning and construction schedule will be available this fall, and financing is not only a question of the state budget, but concession solutions are possible, as the expansion of rail and road could exceed EUR 1 billion. A third owner could also be involved in Budapest Airport, but only with a share of less than 10%. This was announced by Minister of Economy Márton Nagy and Nicolas Notebaert, CEO of Vinci Concessions.
On June 6, the government announced that the state had purchased Budapest’s Ferenc Liszt Airport. The purchase price amounted to EUR 3.1 billion. The Hungarian state paid EUR 2.48 billion for its 80% stake.
