Békéscsaba awarded a planning contract for the expansion of the regional airport. A feasibility study is being prepared for almost HUF 1.5 billion (EUR 3.8 million). A passenger terminal of 1,000 square meters and a new runway of 2,500 meters will be built.
Construction could start in 2025. According to the government, Békéscsaba and Gyula should become the center of the Hungarian aerospace industry. An airport suitable for cargo and business flights should thus be built. The expansion of the airport is likely to cost almost EUR 100 million.
