MÁV-Start is testing used electric locomotives from the manufacturer Alstom as part of a trial operation. After a successful test phase, a contract can be concluded for the leasing of a total of 27 locomotives (15 immediately and 12 optionally available).
The Astride multi-current locomotives manufactured by the French company Alstom are suitable for operation on the national 25-kilovolt overhead line network and can pull trains at speeds of up to 160 km/h. The locomotive type tested was previously operated by the French state railroad (SNCF) and was taken over by the railroad leasing company AKIEM.
