E-cars – Rapid increase

By the end of July, almost 61,000 all-electric vehicles had been registered. The entire fleet of vehicles with green license plates, including plug-in hybrid vehicles, exceeded the 100,000 unit mark in June, according to the Ministry of Energy. Last month, the 600th environmentally friendly motorcycle and the 4,000th pure electric truck were put into operation.

Since February 2024, more environmentally friendly vehicles have been registered in Hungary every month than in any previous month. The upswing is largely due to a funding program totaling HUF 30 billion (EUR 76.1 million). Until spring 2025, companies can receive a subsidy of HUF 2.8-4 million (EUR 7-10 thousand) for the purchase of a pure e-car. The subsidy also applies to e-delivery vans and e-minibuses. By the beginning of August, around 3,500 applications had been received for the purchase of over 4,200 vehicles. These applications totaled approximately HUF 16.4 billion (EUR 41.6 million).

The Ministry of Energy is also preparing a tender worth HUF 28 billion (EUR 71 million) for the expansion of the charging network.
