The government has announced further measures regarding the baby loan and the Family Homebuilding Allowance (CSOK) subsidy. In addition, price caps on basic foodstuffs will end on 1 August.
The government expects inflation would fall significantly in the summer and has also introduced new types of instruments, such as mandatory discount scheme by food retail chains and online price monitoring. In parallel with the end of price caps, retail chains will be required to offer a discount of as much as 15% from August, instead of the previous 10%. The discount must also be granted for basic foodstuffs previously covered by the food price freeze.
The CSOK can no longer be claimed by urban centers from 1 January 2024. As before, the concessionary VAT rate of 5% can be applied to invoices with a maximum volume of HUF 5 million (EUR 13,500) for owner-occupied home construction. In the case of new construction, the subsidy amounts for smaller settlements (with less than 5,000 inhabitants) are increased to HUF 1 million (EUR 2,700) for one child, HUF 4 million (EUR 10,800) for two children and HUF 15 million (EUR 40,540) for three children. In the case of modernisation, subsidy amounts are halved. The maximum amount of the baby loan will be increased from 10 to HUF 11 million (EUR 29,700). From 1 January 2024, however, the wife must be under 30 years of age to qualify.
