E.ON Hungária starts major investment

The electricity supplier E.ON Hungária will tackle more than 15,000 projects to expand and modernize the network in its supply area by 2026.

The investment expenditure for the projects in Transdanubia and Pest County amounts to HUF 74 billion (EUR 190 million). E.ON is raising half of the funds itself, while the other half will come from the EU recovery fund.

The reason for the major investment is the overloaded network, since the capacities of the PV systems now exceed 4,000 MW. The network would now has to be able to absorb the generated energy.

At the request of Hungary, the EU approved corresponding financing worth HUF 163 billion (EUR 419 million) as part of the reconstruction fund.

In the E.ON supply area alone, over 130,000 applications to feed in electricity from rooftop solar systems were received last year. To meet this need, the company will expand high, medium and low voltage networks, build new substations and make many local investments.
