German premium car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz has started series production of its new, fully electric GLB model in Kecskemét.
According to Jens Bühler, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Hungary Kft., more than 2 million vehicles have already rolled off the production line at the Kecskemét plant since 2012. The new GLB with EQ technology is the second fully electric model to be built at the site, following the EQB. In March, the GLB hybrid with a modern internal combustion engine will also follow.
Since 2022, Mercedes-Benz has invested around EUR 1 billion in the Kecskemét site to make existing production lines more flexible and to implement comprehensive digitalization. In addition to modern manufacturing technologies, artificial intelligence and automation play a key role.
The body components are produced by Mercedes-Benz in its own press shop in Kecskemét. The newly developed batteries for the fully electric GLB come from the site’s new battery assembly plant.
A-Class production moves from Rastatt to Kecskemét
From the second half of 2026, Mercedes-Benz will also relocate production of the A-Class from Rastatt to Kecskemét.
The compact model will be manufactured at Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Hungary Kft. in Hungary until the launch of its successor. Last summer, it was announced that Mercedes-Benz plans to continue producing the A-Class until 2028.
