Liszt Ferenc International Airport in Budapest is set to undergo a major modernization.
By 2035, a total of EUR 2.5 billion will be invested in the transport connections and infrastructure of the airport. A new 12-kilometre dual carriageway (2×3 lanes) is scheduled for completion by the end of 2028, and a high-speed rail line is planned to be operational by 2035. According to the plans, Terminal 3 will also be inaugurated in 2035.
The suburban rail (S-Bahn) will be extended over a 27-kilometre route from the current terminus of metro line M3 in Kőbánya to Monor. This EUR 1 billion investment will be awarded as a concession through an international tender.
The development aims to transform Budapest Airport into a leading regional transport hub and to double its annual passenger traffic from nearly 20 million today to 40 million by 2035.
