Strabag Hungary – Asphalt mixing plant in Orosháza

Strabag has inaugurated a new asphalt mixing plant in Orosháza (Békés County). The investment amounted to more than HUF 950 million (EUR 2.4 million).

Originally established in 1998, the facility was shut down following the 2008 financial crisis. The new asphalt plant and its associated infrastructure, such as the hall, storage areas, raw material depot, and office buildings were constructed on the site of the former plant.

With a nominal capacity of 240 tonnes of asphalt per hour, the facility can load nine semi-trailer trucks with asphalt every hour. The fully automated plant is suitable for foamed bitumen dosing and asphalt production. While the previous plant produced 270,000 tonnes of asphalt over 11 years, the new facility can match that output in just 110 days of continuous operation.

A key sustainability feature of the plant is its ability to recycle reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) into the production process.

The site also includes a 1,200 square meters, covered raw material warehouse equipped with solar panels. The investment in the photovoltaic system alone amounted to nearly HUF 46.5 million (EUR 119,000).

Currently, the plant employs five people and primarily supplies regional road construction projects. Strabag Hungary, with more than 2,000 specialists, operates 15 asphalt mixing plants nationwide. It produces over 1 million tonnes of asphalt annually.
