Wizz Air’s ground handling services at Budapest Airport will now be performed using all-electric equipment by its leading service partner Menzies Aviation. Compared to diesel-powered equipment, fully electric ground handling can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 80% per aircraft.
Wizz Air is the first airline at Budapest Airport to fully electrify its ground handling operations. The company is committed to reducing its carbon footprint by a further 25% by 2030.
Wizz Air operates 14 Airbus A321neo narrow-body aircraft in Budapest, which offer significant environmental benefits. Noise and nitrous oxide emissions are reduced by almost 50% and carbon dioxide emissions by 20% compared to the previous model.
Budapest Airport has reduced operational emissions by 65% in ten years. The airport currently has 43 charging points for more than 100 electric ground support vehicles.
