Vajda-Papír – Billions for green technologies

The paper manufacturer Vajda-Papír is planning extensive investments in energy efficiency, environmental protection and emission reduction. In the coming years, more than HUF 10 billion forints (approx. EUR 25 million) from the state program to save factories will be invested in a solar park and a biomass power plant.

Two companies in the group – Vajda-Papír Kft. and Vajda Real Estate Kft. – are each investing more than HUF 5.7 billion (EUR 14.5 million). By investing in energy efficiency, the company aims to reduce its water consumption for production and operations by 20% by 2030, increase the proportion of renewable energy at its production sites by 50% and reduce the amount of waste generated.

Vajda-Papír is also the first Hungarian manufacturing company to join the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi). This international initiative supports companies in setting science-based emission reduction targets to accelerate the fight against climate change. The 29,000 kWp power plant will cover a significant part of the energy needs of the company’s production units. The funding for Vajda Real Estate will in turn enable the construction of a biomass power plant. This plant will generate industrial steam and electricity for the paper mill.

Over the past ten years, the Group has invested around HUF 40 billion (EUR 100 million) in manufacturing tissue paper. It has also focused on operating using the most environmentally friendly and sustainable technologies. Vajda-Papír produces 140,000 tons of paper products annually. Founded in 1999, the family-owned company employs around 700 people across the group, including over 110 in its Norwegian subsidiary.
