The French energy supplier Veolia has agreed to purchase a 430-megawatt gas turbine power plant in Gönyű from the German energy company Uniper.
Uniper has concluded an agreement on the sale of 100% of the shares in Uniper Hungary Energetikai Kft. to Veolia Invest Hungary Zrt, a subsidiary of Veolia S.A. The power plant was commissioned in 2011. The gas and steam combined-cycle power plant is mainly important for electricity generation. It is the youngest gas turbine power plant in Hungary and also the most efficient.
The sale of this stake is part of the conditions that Uniper must fulfill under EU state aid law. The closing of the transaction is subject to various regulatory approvals, which are expected to be granted in the second half of 2024. Both parties have agreed not to disclose the agreed purchase price.
The Veolia Group supplies 57 state and municipal facilities, 62 healthcare and social facilities and 56 industrial sites in Germany with energy and supplies more than 270,000 district-heated homes and public buildings in 14 cities as a district heating provider.
The Group’s ten power plants – in Pécs, Dorog, Kőbánya, Debrecen, Nyíregyháza, Szakoly, Ajka and the power plants of Budapesti Erőmű Zrt. in Kispest, Újpalota and Kelenföld – operate highly efficient natural gas turbine and renewable energy (biomass) based plants. Thanks to its virtual power plant, the Veolia Group also has a significant share of the regulation market.
