Tungsram will cease production of conventional lighting

After the two-week shutdown at Tungsram’s plants in mid-April, the company will cease production of conventional lighting. By the end of the year, the company will lay off 1,600 people at all five production sites in Hungary.

The layoffs will first begin in two months in Kisvárda and Hajdúböszörmény. The technological change is unavoidable in order to remain competitive on the world market and save the jobs of 1,500 people.

In the future, Tungsram will focus on three business areas: energy-saving lighting upgrades, parts and components manufacturing and modern LED solutions for outdoor, industrial and tunnel applications.
