In June, the total installed capacity of solar power plants in Hungary surpassed 8,000 megawatts, according to the Ministry of Energy. Green energy rising contributed to keep electricity imports below 20% of total consumption in the first half of this year, compared to nearly 25% during the same period last year.
Thanks to the capacity expansion, Hungary is not only meeting domestic demand but is increasingly producing green electricity for export as well. The government has already allocated a total of HUF 180 billion (EUR 450 million) through various tenders to support families and businesses in setting up energy storage systems. Under the Jedlik Ányos Energy Program, a new corporate tender to support the construction of industrial energy storage facilities will soon be launched, with a budget of HUF 50 billion (EUR 125 million).
