Private households can receive non-refundable support for the generation and storage of solar power from January 15, 2024, the Ministry of Energy announced. The Solar Energy Plus Program, with a budget of HUF 75 billion (EUR 195,3 million), gives private individuals with privately owned residential properties the opportunity to to use non-refundable support for renewable energy sources.
The investments will be used to further expand domestic solar capacity with solar modules and storage systems. Those who have already signed a contract with a contractor can apply for a subsidy after successful pre-registration. The subsidies can amount to up to HUF 5 million (EUR 13 thousand) per property.
Contractors have been able to apply for the program since the beginning of December. More than 500 companies have already been accepted for registration.
More than 250,000 small power generation systems for private households are already in operation in Hungary. The Solar Energy Plus program will support an estimated 15,000 families.
At the end of 2023, the total capacity of PV systems in Hungary reached 5,650 MW. Commercial systems now have a total capacity of 3,330 MW and private solar systems 2,320 MW.
