MVM Zöld Generáció Zrt. – First hybrid geothermal system

MVM Zöld Generáció Zrt. will begin construction of Hungary’s first hybrid geothermal system in the Zsana and Kiskunhalas region of Bács-Kiskun County.

The aim of the development is to build a geothermal power plant and utilize thermal energy directly within the region. As part of the investment, drilling to depths of approximately 2,400–2,500 meters is planned. If successful, a power plant with a capacity of 3.5–4.5 MW could be established. The system can operate in a closed loop, as the extracted thermal water will be reinjected into the ground after use.

Hungary is already among the countries with significant geothermal energy potential. Around 10% of the approximately 674,000 households connected to district heating networks are supplied with geothermal energy.
