MVM Zöld Generáció Kft. has installed a 28.8 megawatt photovoltaic system between the airport and the southern industrial area of Debrecen.
The eastern Hungarian city provided a 52-hectare area in the business park for the construction. The installation of 52,000 solar panels will cover the energy needs of 15,000 households and reduces carbon dioxide emissions by more than 33,000 tons annually.
The total cost of the investment was HUF 11.52 billion (EUR 27.9 million), for which non-repayable funding of HUF 4.297 billion (EUR 10.4 million) was granted.
Two more municipal solar parks with a total area of around 50,000 square meters are planned to be built in Debrecen. The energy generated and stored on site could be the key to the operation of electrically powered public transport in Debrecen in the future.
