MOL Petrolkémia Zrt. is building a propylene plant in Tiszaújváros at a cost of HUF 65 billion (EUR 175 million). The project will be completed by the end of 2024 and will receive government support of HUF 5 billion (EUR 13 million) as it helps to protect the company’s 1,200 basic chemical manufacturing jobs.

In addition to the long-term profitability of the company, environmental aspects are also taken into account. In this way, the emission of around 40,000 t of carbon dioxide per year should be avoided and the emission of technological waste water should tend towards zero.

The new propylene plant will produce 100,000 t of propylene, significantly meeting MOL’s chemical feedstock needs and increasing the company’s self-sufficiency. The plant will also supply propylene for the polyol complex under construction. The construction of the two plants will create thousands of competitive jobs in the long term.

The propylene plant is an integral part of MOL Group’s “Shape Tomorrow 2030+” strategy, as the development will allow the company to gradually increase the share of non-fuel products. In the coming years, the MOL Group will invest around USD 4.5 billion, which will make Tiszaújváros the leading chemical site in the region.
