Hungary’s social partners have reached a compromise agreement on minimum wage hikes effective at the beginning of 2026. The general minimum wage will rise by 11%, while the guaranteed minimum wage for skilled workers will increase by 7%.
As of January 1, 2026, the statutory minimum wage will be set at HUF 322,800 (approx. EUR 840), and the guaranteed minimum wage for skilled workers will rise to HUF 373,200 (approx. EUR 970). In the medium term, the government maintains its goal for the minimum wage to reach 50% of the gross average wage.
According to a survey conducted by the HR portal profession.hu, 52% of companies plan to raise wages in 2026, with an average planned increase of 8%. Additionally, 48% of employers intend to expand cafeteria (non-wage benefit) schemes, also by an average of 8%.
