The Liberty Steel Group has restarted the rolling mill in Dunaújváros (formerly Dunaferr).
Liberty Dunaújváros, the country’s largest steel producer, has restarted the rolling mill and the galvanizing line. The company is focusing primarily on meeting special customer needs before production is to be fully ramped up in the second quarter.
The Indian company hopes that the markets will continue to recover. In order to reduce operating costs, the company uses fewer external services.
With a global turnover of USD 11 billion, the Group has a total rolling capacity of more than 20 million tons, more than 200 production sites in 13 countries worldwide and employs around 28,000 people.
In August last year, the Indian company Liberty Steel won the tender for a new company to take over the steel assets of Dunaferr in Dunaújváros, which is in liquidation.
Dunaferr had become insolvent at the end of 2022 due to the conflict between its Russian and Ukrainian owners, and the government intervened to prevent the company from going bankrupt.
The European Union approved the change in Dunaferr’s ownership structure in October 2023.
