Holcim Magyarország Kft. – Solar park in Királyegyháza

Holcim Magyarország Kft. has inaugurated a solar park at its cement plant in Királyegyháza (near Pécs) with a capacity of approximately 28.5 MW. The solar park, built by ID Energy Group, will cover about one-third of the electricity needs for production.

Notably, this is the first solar park in Hungary established under a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) and granted the right to feed electricity into the public grid.

The Hungarian subsidiary of the Swiss Holcim Group employs more than 140 people. It aims to offer innovative solutions to national waste management challenges. It also seeks to achieve carbon-neutral operations by 2040. To this end, projects are being developed for the utilization of construction and demolition waste and for the expansion of renewable energy sources. Additional initiatives focus on enhancing biodiversity in mining areas, as well as carbon capture and storage.

Since its establishment in 2011, the cement plant has invested around HUF 4.5 billion (EUR 11.1 million) in environmental protection.

Holcim Magyarország operates its only cement plant in Királyegyháza using the most advanced available technology. The company also runs a clay and limestone quarry in Bükkösd. In 2024, the company reported net sales of over HUF 46 billion (EUR 114.1 million). This marks an increase from HUF 34.3 billion (EUR 85.1 million) in 2023.
