Gyermelyi Zrt. – Billion forint capacity expansion

Pasta manufacturer Gyermelyi Zrt. is investing around HUF 14 billion (EUR 35 million) to expand production capacity at its site in Gyermely.

This is another step in Hungary’s path toward self-sufficient food supply, drawing lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic and the global crisis. For this reason, the project, which also includes a solar power plant, is being supported by the state with HUF 2.5 billion (EUR 6.25 million). The Hungarian-owned company currently supplies approximately half of the domestic demand for pasta.

In order to ensure that the highest possible share of the country’s food supply is sourced from domestic resources, the government has supported 287 major projects over the past 10 years, generating total investments of HUF 1,400 billion (EUR 3.5 billion) and creating 9,000 jobs. The food industry, which now employs 140,000 people, has doubled its production volume over the past five years to HUF 6,700 billion (EUR 16.75 billion).
