The Slovakian-Hungarian company GreenCoop has built its second greenhouse in Hungary. Approximately 12-14 million cucumbers are grown annually in the facility in Ács using thermal heat. The investment volume amounts to HUF 6 billion (EUR 15 million). The government is supporting the development with HUF 1.7 billion (EUR 4.25 million) within the framework of the Rural Development Program. 80 new jobs are being created with the development.
GreenCoop built its first greenhouse in Slovakia 20 years ago. The company has four facilities in Slovakia and is present in Ács and Győr in Hungary. 500 employees of the group work in vegetable cultivation. The logistics center employs 120 people in fruit and vegetable wholesale.
In the horticultural sector, the government has already made almost 7,300 funding decisions with a total volume of HUF 190 billion (EUR 475 million). The subsidies have enabled the construction or conversion of a total of 1.26 million square meters of greenhouse space. As part of the program, 452,000 cubic meters of cold storage capacity was also completed, frost protection systems were purchased and machinery was expanded.
