Forest-Vill Kft – Hungary’s largest energy storage facility

Forest-Vill Kft. is building Hungary’s largest energy storage facility in Szolnok on behalf of MAVIR Zrt.

As part of the HUF 8.5 billion project (EUR 21.6 million), the Budaörs-based company will carry out the planning and complete construction of a 20 megawatt energy storage facility with a capacity of 60 megawatt hours.

Forest-Vill was awarded the public tender by MAVIR Zrt. at the end of 2023. The contract was signed in February. The project is scheduled for completion in the first half of 2025.

Százhalombatta is currently home to the largest plant of its kind in the country with a capacity of 7.68 megawatts. The newly constructed storage facility will be able to store eight times this amount and will be one of the largest battery storage facilities in Central Europe.

The investment is justified by the growing momentum in the expansion of solar capacity. In 2023, the installed capacity of solar power plants in Germany reached a record high of more than 1,600 megawatts. At the same time, the fluctuations in electricity generation from weather-dependent renewable energies make the construction of energy storage systems and the expansion of the electricity grid essential.
