The renovation of the suburban railway line between Debrecen and Balmazújváros continues. The government has provided more than HUF 65.5 billion (EUR 176 million) for the second phase of the project.
The complete reconstruction and electrification of the railway line will improve the transport connection between the two cities. This will be the first suburban railway in the Debrecen conurbation.
The first phase of the renovation of railway line 108 between the county seat’s main railway station and the Macs Industrial Park cost almost HUF 70 billion (EUR 188 million). The investment includes the complete renewal of the tracks and the electrification of 35 km of railway line. By 2026, the project will connect one of the country’s largest industrial parks, include the BMW car plant and its suppliers to the rail network.
