In Mátranovák (Nógrád County), Alstom is investing HUF 1.3 billion (EUR 3.17 million) in producing a bogie frame for its hydrogen-powered passenger train and is hiring 100 new employees.
The bogies are an important component of the Coradia iLint hydrogen trains, which are built in Salzgitter. These trains, powered by hydrogen fuel cells, have been in use as an alternative to diesel trains on non-electrified routes in Germany since 2018. Orders were also received from Italy and France.
At Alstom Transport Hungary Zrt., bogies have been manufactured since the 1980s. Alstom took over the plant with its 660 employees at the beginning of 2021. The French Alstom Group has been one of the main players in the local subway segment for two decades.
