Funding for sustainable mobility

The EU Commission is providing EUR 7 billion for 134 transport projects. Nine initiatives for the development of sustainable, safe and intelligent transport infrastructure in Hungary are being funded with EUR 306 million. The focus is on improving and modernizing the rail, inland waterway and maritime transport networks, which are part of the trans-European transport (TEN-T) network.

The funded projects in Hungary include the modernization of the southern Budapest ring railroad and the equipping of 35 MÁV-START locomotives with the European Train Control System (ETCS). In the second phase of the project, the capacity increase of the Hungarian-Ukrainian railroad border crossings, which are part of the EU-Ukraine solidarity corridors, is also being funded.
