Rheinmetall – Foundation stone laid of the fourth investment

The Hungarian subsidiary of the German Rheinmetall Group has laid the foundation stone of a new factory in the immediate vicinity of the ELI-ALPS laser center in Szeged. This is already Rheinmetall’s fourth development in Hungary.

In co-operation with the University of Szeged (SZTE), Rheinmetall intends to establish a new ecosystem and knowledge base. Rheinmetall is bringing cutting-edge technologies to Szeged and creating a further 300 jobs in Hungary with this new development.

The 95,000 square meters plant in the southern Hungarian city will primarily focus on electromobility and hydrogen technology. This is also the Group’s first hybrid plant, where civilian areas are combined with defence technologies under one roof. Nanocapacitors and individual components for the military division of Rheinmetall Electronic Solutions are to be produced here.

Rheinmetall already builds combat vehicles in Zalaegerszeg and produces ammunition in Várpalota. A digitalisation center has also been set up in Budapest with its industrial partner 4iG.
