The Austrian brick manufacturer Wienerberger Téglaipari Zrt. has completely modernized and automated its plant in Kőszeg with an investment of HUF 3.6 billion (around EUR 9.5 million).
The expansion will increase the capacity of the plant, which mainly produces for export, to 5 million cubic meters annually. This development will make the Wienerberger plant one of the most modern factories in Europe. The life cycle of one of Wienerberger’s oldest domestic factories will thus be extended by around 50 years.
75% of the annual capacity is sold in European countries. In addition to France, Slovakia, Austria, Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia and Slovenia, Wienerberger also wants to establish itself on the German market.
Wienerberger Magyarország is a member of the international Wienerberger Group. The parent company was founded in Vienna in 1819 and has developed into the largest brick manufacturer in the world, the global market leader in the production of facade tiles and the leading producer of ceramic roof tiles in Europe.
Wienerberger is present in 27 countries, mainly in Europe, India, the USA and Canada. The Group employs more than 19,000 people worldwide and has more than 200 production sites.
Wienerberger founded its Hungarian subsidiary in 1990 with the intention of localizing its technology systems and products throughout Central and Eastern Europe. The Hungarian group currently has eight production sites and employs more than 800 people in Hungary, including the Pipelife Group, 51 of whom are employed in Kőszeg.
Wienerberger Téglaipari Zrt. had net sales of HUF 54.2 billion (EUR 141 million) and a profit after tax of HUF 8.6 billion (EUR 22.3 million) in 2022.
