The government has decided to privatise approximately 75% of MÁV Vagon Kft. However, the company will remain a subsidiary of the MÁV Volán Group, so the working conditions of the employees will not be affected by the change in ownership structure, MÁV Zrt. announced. The new majority shareholder of the company will be Magyar Vagon Zrt., the owner of Dunakeszi Járműjavító (Dunakeszi Vehicle Repair Center), which is a major player in the Hungarian railway vehicle manufacturing and maintenance market.
MÁV Volán Group hopes that the move will lead to a more competitive, business-oriented approach, shorter decision-making and repair times, better material supply, improved service levels and, as a result, higher passenger satisfaction.
The government’s aim is to significantly reduce the average age of the MÁV Volán Group’s rolling stock, which is currently 40 years, which will require the purchase and production of modern vehicles. With the change in ownership, the development and production capacities of MÁV Vagon Kft. can effectively support this goal. The contract is expected to be signed in mid-October.
