MVM Démász – New substation near Szeged

The Hungarian electricity supplier company MVM Démász has inaugurated a new substation near Szeged. The new substation in the immediate vicinity of the Science Park is extremely important for the energy supply of the Laser Research Center. The substation’s two 132/22 kV transformers can meet the energy needs of a city the size of Szeged.

The substation was built as part of a series of investments to improve the energy network with HUF 160 billion (EUR 430 million). The next substation is being built in Soltvadkert. The state-owned energy holding MVM wants to increase the flexibility of the electricity grid with the planned series of investments. This is necessary because in the Démász supply area alone, more than 400 MW of solar capacities will be carried out within three years.

At the same time, MVM is building combined cycle gas turbine power plant units in Visonta and Tiszaújváros to guarantee balancing energy. MVM also laid a 3-kilometer-long high-voltage transmission line as part of the investments.
