With an investment of around HUF 400 billion (EUR 1 billion), the Chinese company Eve Power is building its first European plant in Debrecen. The world’s ninth largest electric battery manufacturer is creating more than 1,000 new jobs.
The plant will supply lithium batteries for BMW’s electric cars, which are manufactured at a nearby production facility currently under construction. The state is supporting Eve Power’s investment with HUF 14 billion (EUR 37.5 million).
The project’s water needs will be met 95% from treated wastewater and surface water, and the company will recycle some of the process wastewater on site. The government will finance the modernisation of the water utility system, i.e. the city’s water supply and sewage system, to the tune of HUF 108 billion (EUR 289.5 million).
Debrecen is investing HUF 175 billion (EUR 472.9 million) in urban infrastructure. A good HUF 108 billion (EUR 291.8 million) are being spent on water management and almost HUF 66 billion (EUR 178 million) on railway modernisation. The announced railway project includes the electrification of the Debrecen-Balmazújváros line.
