The price caps for selected staple foods will be extended at least until the end of June 2023.
There will be no extension of the price freeze for the time being. The government will demand discount actions from retailers to fight against inflation. For this purpose, staple foods will be classified into 20 categories. From each of these categories, one product will be selected each week to be offered at a 10% discount compared to the lowest price in the previous 30 days. Products with price caps are excluded from this group. Small shops do not have to participate in these discount campaigns.
Price monitoring is to be installed by 1 July at the latest, combined with stricter controls in the form of raids on shops. This is intended to spark competition between retail chains in order to curb inflation.
