Hungary has taken in 120,000 refugees from Ukraine. Hungarian society was gripped by a wave of solidarity; in addition to numerous civil organizations and government agencies, many citizens also help to support the victims of the war. The account of the central donation campaign under the telephone hotline 1357 had been received over HUF 200 million (EUR 500,000) by Thursday. The government established the Humanitarian Council to coordinate aid to Ukrainian refugees and work of charitable organizations.
Numerous companies now also offer job opportunities for refugees. Following a general appeal by the Construction Industry Association, several companies have shown concrete willingness to employ refugees from Ukraine. The paper manufacturer, Vajda-Papír has almost 100 vacancies, the textile factory Styl offers 70 jobs. At the same time, both companies take care of the basic needs and accommodation of the employees and their families.
E.ON Hungária is financing the humanitarian mission of its strategic partners, the Maltese Relief Service and Hungarian Interchurch Aid in the border area to Ukraine and in Transcarpathia with HUF 100 million (EUR 250,000).
The pharmaceutical company Béres donated vitamin tablets worth HUF 20 million (EUR 50,000). These will be distributed among the refugees arriving in Záhony on the Hungarian-Ukrainian border.
The hotel chain Danubius Hotels has been providing accommodation for refugees since March 1st. The Danubius Hotel Hungaria – the hotel with the most rooms in Hungary – has only recently reopened and is making its full capacity available. The hotel also provides meals for refugees.
The mineral oil company Mol is already donating over 100,000 liters of fuel to the rescue service and humanitarian organizations in Ukraine.
