More than 93,000 fully electric vehicles with green license plates have now been registered in Hungary. Since February, September marked the eighth consecutive month in which the number of climate-friendly vehicles surpassed that of each previous month.
Between January and September, 22,628 electric cars were registered, already exceeding the total of the previous record year, 2024. If the current growth trend continues, the new annual record could surpass 30,000 units. According to the Ministry of Energy, if the fourth quarter maintains the pace of the previous three quarters, the eco-friendly vehicle fleet in Hungary will continue to grow. It is expected to exceed the 100,000 mark by the end of the year.
Since the beginning of 2020, the number of electric vehicles in Hungary has increased twelvefold, and doubled compared to autumn 2023.
Further expansion could be significantly boosted by a HUF 10 billion (EUR 25.5 million) budget increase for the corporate e-vehicle incentive program. As of December 1st, even the initial budget of HUF 30 billion (EUR 76.5 million) has not yet been fully contractually allocated.
