In Hungarian strawberry production, a new chapter has begun with a project led by Veresi Paradicsom Kft. The three-year project, worth HUF 1.2 billion (approx. EUR 3 million), resulted in the development of a novel cultivation method for strawberries.
The initiative was supported by the National Research, Development and Innovation Office (NKFIH) with HUF 730 million (EUR 1.8 million) in funding. A consortium comprising Bay Zoltán Applied Research Kft., Carbotech Magyarország Kft., and the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (MATE) developed technologies for cultivating microgreens and vegetables in closed systems, using artificial lighting combined with aquaponics.
The result of the research is the “Veresi Strawberry.” This innovation not only introduced a new product to the market, but also created new jobs.
