With a follow-up investment of HUF 54 billion (EUR 138 million), Nyíregyháza in eastern Hungary has now become LEGO’s second-largest site in the world. All production processes, injection moulding, decoration, assembly, packaging, and warehousing are present at this location.
As part of the project, the Danish toy manufacturer expanded its packaging and warehouse capacities. The investment was supported by the Hungarian government with HUF 4.3 billion (EUR 11 million). Over the past two years, the factory expansion has created 300 new jobs
LEGO Group established its Hungarian production subsidiary, LEGO Manufacturing Kft. in Nyíregyháza in 2008. Since the inauguration in 2014, the site has more than doubled in size, growing from 120,000 square meters to 262,000 square meters with the completion of the latest expansion phase. With 4,300 employees, the company is the largest employer in the region. Thanks to the latest developments, it can now produce 30% more products locally.
LEGO has also been continuously expanding its use of renewable energy for years. Currently, 24,000 solar panels support the factory’s operations, with that number expected to rise to 35,000 soon. The LEGO Group aims to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels and absolute carbon emissions by 37% by 2032, compared to 2019 levels.
